MyWay Mobile Storage Sponsors Start & Finish Lines for 6th Annual Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department 5K Race/Walk
The Carnegie Police department, led by Chief Jeff C. Harbin is hosting the 6th Annual Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) 5K Race/Walk to be held April 27, 8 a.m. through noon. Chief Harbin’s efforts along with numerous volunteers’ hard work have raised more than $54,000 for the Carnegie VFD over the last five years. Chief Harbin stated, “We are well on our way toward breaking the $70,000 mark this year.”
This 5K Race/Walk will be Chief Harbin’s last event before he retires from the Carnegie Police Department at the end of December. Chief Harbin stated, “I will be moving to Charlotte to be closer to my youngest son and granddaughter, but I will be keeping the homestead, so I have a place to stay when I run in, not run, the race next year.”
Chief Harbin has been in uniform since he was 18 years old, serving four years in The United States Marine Corps and 38 years in the Carnegie Police Department. He wants to make this race “better than ever”. With the support of businesses, friends, and family this event continues its rapid growth with over 500 participants expected Saturday.
The event starts early with coffee provided by the MyWay Mobile Storage’s “coffee wagon,” as Chief Harbin calls it, and ending with a raffle of door prizes. Participants will enjoy music, pre- and post-race massages, and refreshments of bagels, bananas, apples and energy drinks, along with a newly designed T-shirt. Mayor Jack Kobistek will present the trophy medals for each of the numerous categories at the conclusion of the race/walk.
This has truly become a community event with a wide range of participants from serious runners tuning up for the Pittsburgh Marathon to families walking dogs and pushing strollers. Storage containers from MyWay Mobile Storage of Pittsburgh will be used to mark the Start/Finish line for this year’s race.
To help promote this year’s event a huge billboard advertising the 5K Race/Walk overlooks the Parkway at the Carnegie exit. Also helping to promote the event in a new partnership is the Carlynton School District which encourages the student body to participate in physical fitness and community involvement. Carlynton students will get a discounted registration fee of $5.00. Early/Pre-Registration is $15.00 up until March 29th, 2013. After March 29th and registration on race day, the fee is $20.00.
Pre-Registration forms are available at the Borough Building and various businesses in Carnegie. You may also visit the Borough website at www.carnegiebourgh.com to download a registration form. Walk up registration is available on the day of the race/walk starting at 7:00 AM.
