Pittsburgh, PA (June 29, 2015) — MyWay Mobile Storage joined Cintas First Aid & Safety to present a check to the Wounded Warrior Project from the 2nd Annual Cornhole Classic fundraiser. The event raised more than $20,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. Jeff Hancher, Global Account Manager at Cintas, created the event last year to support the Wounded Warrior Project as a way to give back to veterans returning home. Ed Sickmund, MyWay Mobile Storage Market Owner and former Cintas General Manager, loved the idea and immediately joined on as co-host.
The Wounded Warrior Project helps injured soldiers returning home from conflicts around the world. More soldiers survive their injuries than in the past thanks to better body armor and better medicine, but that means that the number of service men and women returning home with physical or mental injuries is greater.
“I was thrilled with the success of this year’s event and humbled to be able to help Wounded Warrior Project do what they do to support our brave warriors,” said Hancher. “They have a vision to foster the most successful well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history. As Wounded Warrior Project puts it, ‘it’s not about the war, it’s about the warrior.’ We applaud that vision, and know that the money raised by Pittsburghers at this event will be put to good use.” He continued, “These brave individuals and their families need our support now more than ever.”
“Last year we raised a little over $6,000,” Sickmund commented, “We were hoping to double that this year, but we more than tripled our total thanks to the folks at Cintas First Aid and Safety that organized the event, all the great area businesses that stepped up as sponsors and, of course the cornhole teams.”
There were 50 cornhole teams competing for bragging rights and the $300 first place prize. Cornhole boards were built for the event by the Carpenters Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) with lumber donated by 84 Lumber. Country band, Saddle Up, generously donated their talents to provide entertainment. Other event sponsors included, Beer Blizzard, RMU Island Sports Center, Spider Learning, Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network, Snyder Brothers Automotive, KDKA News Radio, Bobby Rahal Automotive Group, Trophy Works, Berkshire Hathoway Peters Office, Colorperfect Printing, Cowden Associates, The Windmill in Hopewell, Sheree’s Styling Studio, First National Bank, The Beer Warehouse, 10xSolutions, Mugshotz, and of course, Steel City Cornhole.
“Fundraisers like this cornhole tournament help the Wounded Warrior Project expand and improve our programs for wounded warriors returning home to the Pittsburgh area,” said Melaine Huber, of Wounded Warrior Project. “Every dollar raised helps us continue uniquely structured programs to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement. Everyone’s recovery process is different. We help them find a program that fits them and their family’s needs,” Huber continued, “We want warriors to remember, you are not alone in this journey. We are here to support you as you define your new normal.” More information about the Wounded Warrior Project is available online at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
